The Intercollegiate WorldSkills competition takes place later this month and the Chamber is encouraging regional digital professionals to support the event by acting as judges on the day.
The competition follows several years of discussion within the Chamber’s Digital Skills Working Group about the need for more digital skills activity in the region. This live competition hosted by Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group offers students the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a competitive, industry-focused environment.
Judges from local digital businesses, higher education and partner organisations will play a key role in supporting the competition, providing industry insight and helping to assess student performance. The event will feature World Skills–style competitions in cyber security and web development.
Mark Kent, Director of Professional Studies at NSCG, said: “Encouraging regional participation is vital in preparing students for the Digital World Skills competitions.
It’s great to see NSCG, regional colleges and the Chamber’s Digital Working Group working together to deliver a local skills competition at Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire’s Institute of Technology, giving students access to cutting-edge facilities.
From initial conversations we have some leading digital companies interested in supporting the day and in a variety of capacities, needless to say though it would be great to have further support from our local employers.”
The competition will take place on 26 February and anyone interested in supporting the event is invited to contact mark.kent@nscg.ac.uk or info@staffordshirechambers.co.uk.
