The government has unveiled its 10-year Industrial Strategy, with aspirations to provide the strategic certainty that allows businesses to create wealth and prosperity. The Strategy is also seen as a re-set of relations between business and government and can be viewed here:

Over the next decade, the Strategy aims to back the UK’s strengths, with ambitious plans for eight high growth sectors of:
- Advanced manufacturing.
- Clean energy industries.
- Creative industries.
- Defence.
- Digital and technologies.
- Financial services.
- Life sciences.
- Professional and business services.
The Industrial Strategy plans to create a more competitive business environment across all eight sectors and develop thriving places across the UK. Each sector will benefit from a number of sector-specific commitments.
The Strategy has the ambition to make it easier and quicker to do business and invest, with long-term stability. It comes with proposed measures of support, which include a reduction in the cost of electricity, innovation funding and a new global talent taskforce.
The government is also looking to unlock the potential of the UK’s city regions and clusters, with plans to tackle specific barriers to investment. Proposed measures will include an expansion of the number of investible sites in strategic locations, support for investors to partner directly with key decision makers at a national, regional and local level, as well as more place-based opportunities to allow businesses to access investment, skills and research.
Following on from the launch of the Industrial Strategy, what are the views of local businesses? Staffordshire Chambers’ of Commerce and the Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire Growth Hub have developed a short survey asking businesses for their views on the Industrial Strategy.
Are the eight high growth sectors a fair reflection of the economy and do you feel that your business could align with one of the high growth sectors? We would like to encourage our local businesses to share their views on a Strategy which will influence the next decade of both our local and national economy. We need local feedback as the voice of business can help to have a say in making sure our region is adequately supported.
Please take a moment to share your views. The survey link can be opened below and the survey will remain open until 5PM on Friday 25th July:
