Midlands Air Ambulance Charity Named Finalist for Responsible Business Award.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has been named a finalist for the Responsible Business Award at the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce Business Awards, sponsored by Rydale Roofing. This award recognises organisations that demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility, community engagement, and ethical practices, and acknowledges their contributions to the well-being of Staffordshire.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity provides emergency medical services across the Midlands, delivering critical care and lifesaving interventions. Operating from airbases in Cosford, Strensham, and Tatenhill, the charity responds to urgent incidents such as cardiac arrests, road traffic collisions, and sports injuries. Since its founding in 1991, it has completed over 78,000 missions and is one of the busiest air ambulance services in the UK.

The charity operates three helicopters and a fleet of critical care cars to provide care on land and in the air. It does not receive government funding and relies entirely on donations. Each air ambulance mission costs approximately £2,950.

Between April 2023 and March 2024, 28% of its missions in Staffordshire took place in Stoke-on-Trent, with 35% of those related to cardiac arrests. The charity aims to reach patients within 10 minutes by air or critical care car, supporting improved survival outcomes.

In 2024, the charity launched a Patient Liaison Service to provide emotional and practical support to patients and families after traumatic incidents. The service has received over 100 responses, demonstrating its role in improving patient care and recovery.

The charity also collaborates with local businesses through a network of Business Ambassadors who help raise awareness and support. This partnership aids in sustaining the charity’s services in the region.
