Staffordshire-based training provider Performance Through People (PTP) has been named a finalist for the Innovation, Science and Technology Award at the 2025 Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce Business Awards. Sponsored by TMT First, the award honours organisations that have used innovative approaches in science and technology to enhance business performance, with a focus on ideas and processes that are both new to the company and, ideally, new to the sector.
PTP has over 50 years of experience in delivering high-quality training across a broad range of sectors, including dental nursing, retail, logistics, hospitality, early years education, health and social care. Currently, PTP supports over 2,500 apprentices across 54 standards, in addition to delivering commercial courses in areas including health and safety, IT, and management development.
The company’s finalist status recognises its pioneering approach to tackling the regional skills shortage in welding. In response to growing demand from employers and individuals, PTP developed a comprehensive training offer that combines virtual reality (VR) technology with hands-on practical instruction. This blended model allows learners to safely build foundational skills using VR welding simulators, before progressing to real-world applications in newly installed welding bays equipped to deliver training across MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA processes.
The programme has delivered strong results, with a 100% pass rate to date, 72% employment outcomes for unemployed learners, and progression opportunities into full-time roles and apprenticeships. Four learners have also reached the initial rounds of the World Skills competition in welding, highlighting the programme’s impact on learner development and industry readiness.
