1882 Ltd. trainee model maker Saskia Rigby has been named a finalist for the Learning and Development Award at the 2025 Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce Business Awards, sponsored by Currie Young. The award recognises individuals who demonstrate exceptional growth, innovation, and impact through learning.
Since joining as 1882 Ltd.’s first in-house trainee modeller, Saskia has rapidly advanced, mastering both traditional and digital techniques. She introduced 3D printing to the business, secured a grant for new equipment, and helped deliver a £300,000 contract by designing a custom solution under tight deadlines.
Her contributions have modernised processes, expanded in-house capabilities, and showcased heritage skills through public demonstrations, including at the House of Commons. Saskia’s progress highlights the power of combining craft tradition with creative innovation.
Saskia has redefined what it means to be a trainee,” said Emily Johnson, Director at 1882 Ltd. “She has not only absorbed a deep understanding of heritage ceramics but has actively introduced new technologies and solutions that have already yielded measurable business success.”
