Hanley Economic Building Society Named Finalist for Responsible Business Award.

Hanley Economic Building Society has been named a finalist for the Responsible Business Award at the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce Business Awards. Sponsored by Rydale Roofing, this award recognises businesses and charities that demonstrate social responsibility, community engagement, and ethical practices within Staffordshire.

Founded in 1854, Hanley Economic Building Society offers savings and mortgage products with a focus on serving the Staffordshire region and surrounding areas.

In April 2024, the Society launched the Hanley at Home Fund in partnership with the Community Foundation for Staffordshire and Shropshire (CFS). The fund provides grants to local charities and organisations that assist individuals with developing life skills for independent living, maintaining housing after hospital discharge, or overcoming housing challenges. It also supports financial literacy programmes for children and young people. Contributions included a £25,000 donation to the Reclaim Fund and £15,000 allocated to local projects through CFS.

The Society has implemented a volunteer programme, allowing employees four days per year to participate in charitable activities. In 2024, the company aimed for 170 volunteer days to mark its 170th anniversary, a goal which was surpassed. Employee involvement has included supporting care leavers, assisting people with disabilities, wildlife conservation, and aiding visually impaired individuals, with activities taking place across Staffordshire..

Hanley Economic Building Society continues to focus on its community initiatives, social responsibility, and ethical business practices. Its recognition as a Responsible Business Award finalist reflects these ongoing activities.
