JCB, the world’s third-largest construction equipment brand by volume, has been announced as a finalist in the Medium to Large Business of the Year category at the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce Business Awards 2025. Sponsored by Dains, the award recognises companies with over 50 employees that demonstrate excellence in financial performance, innovation, sustainability, and community and employee engagement.
This recognition comes as JCB celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2025—eight decades of innovation, global growth, and deep roots in Staffordshire. From its humble beginnings in a garage in Uttoxeter, JCB has grown into a global leader with 22 manufacturing plants across four continents and a workforce of more than 19,000 people, including 7,500 based in the UK.
The company continues to lead the industry in innovation, notably through the development of the world’s first zero-carbon hydrogen combustion engine—a breakthrough technology for sustainable construction and agriculture. JCB also demonstrated strong investment in its people, having supported over 1,800 apprentices and graduates since 2008 through its early careers programme, while investing £8 million annually in training and development.
JCB’s commitment to sustainability is evident in both its manufacturing practices and its development of low and zero-emission machinery. Additionally, the company has a long-standing dedication to community engagement, exemplified by a 40-year partnership with the NSPCC and numerous grassroots initiatives throughout Staffordshire.
