Alexandra Powell has been announced as a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2026 Staffordshire Chambers Business Awards, sponsored by the University of Staffordshire.

Alexandra Powell founded Powell Design & Construction while on maternity leave in 2019, with the aim of closing the gap between architectural design and construction delivery. Built alongside her husband Richard, the Stoke-on-Trent business grew from £75k turnover in its first year to over £930k by 2024, navigating the pandemic by pivoting quickly to vacant refurbishment work during lockdown.

Beyond project delivery, Alexandra lectures part-time at Staffordshire University, serves as Secretary of the North Staffordshire Society of Architects, and speaks regularly at schools to encourage young people into construction careers. Her most recent strategic move is the planned acquisition of Stonevalley, a long-established stone and landscaping supplier in Caverswall, structured as a phased purchase with vendor finance to support continuity for both business and the previous owner’s family.

The winners will be revealed at a gala awards ceremony at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Thursday 9 July 2026, followed by The After Party, a late-night celebration for finalists, winners and partners.
