Construction is one of the UK’s economic powerhouses, employing more than 2.1 million people and contributing around £138 billion to the economy. Across Staffordshire, major developments such as the Institute of Technology in Stafford and the West Midlands Interchange demonstrate the sector’s growing importance and the opportunities it is creating for businesses and workers alike.
At a local level, sector occupations in high demand, include electricians and electrical fitters, forklift truck drivers, production managers and directors and construction building trades.
Growth in the sector is being driven by infrastructure spending, whilst opportunities exist to capitalise on modern methods of construction, digitalisation and demand for green skills, such as retrofitting technology.
Back in 1998, Sir John Egan was commissioned to publish a report, which urged the construction industry to promote collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Those ideas led directly to the very creation of Constructing Excellence.
Constructing Excellence is the UK’s leading movement for improving the construction industry. It brings together clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers, academia and public bodies to share best practise and drive continuous improvement across the built environment. In short, Constructing Excellence wants to make the UK construction industry more collaborative, more innovative and more productive.
Here in Staffordshire, Constructing Excellence will provide a platform for organisations and individuals to learn from each other, develop new relationships and help shape the future of construction in our region.
A series of regular construction themed events will take place on a quarterly basis. A first event will take place on Wednesday 30th September at Stoke-on-Trent College, from 8AM.
The 30.9.26. event will focus on the theme of dispute resolution. This event and future events are free of charge and open to all but places must be booked through the link:
Constructing Excellence Staffordshire Breakfast – Staffordshire Chambers Member Zone
A Constructing Excellence Committee has been established and is appealing for interest from anyone wanting to join. Anyone who may be interested in joining should approach me for further details.
There will also be sponsorship opportunities at future events.
Let’s work collaboratively to grow a thriving construction sector across Staffordshire. Hope to see you in September!
