Andy Gear has been announced as a finalist for the Learning, Skills and Development Award at the 2026 Staffordshire Chambers Business Awards, sponsored by Keele University.
Andy joined Bri-Stor Systems as an operator 15 years ago and has worked through team leader and key account manager roles to become Learning and Development Group Leader at the company’s Centre of Excellence in Hixon. In the past year alone he has delivered over 1,000 training hours, onboarded 121 new starters, supported 26 apprentices and trained 11 trainee auto electricians. His 19-module induction programme includes a requirement for every colleague to complete a full vehicle conversion before sign-off. A banksman training module he introduced has contributed to zero accidents since its launch.
Andy’s approach extends well beyond the classroom. He uses skills matrices and build schedules to identify development needs proactively, checks in on colleagues long after their initial training is complete, and has helped shift how temporary staff are integrated into the wider team.
Stuart Elford, Chief Executive of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, said: “Andy Gear is the kind of person who makes an organisation better simply by being in it. Over 1,000 training hours in a single year, zero accidents since introducing his banksman module, and a reputation among colleagues for never switching off his commitment to their development. His journey from shop floor operator to leading the Centre of Excellence at Bri-Stor Systems is an inspiring one, and we are delighted to recognise him as a finalist.”
The winners will be revealed at a gala awards ceremony at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Thursday 9 July 2026, followed by The After Party, a late-night celebration for finalists, winners and partners.
