Clare Clohesy has been announced as a finalist for the Employee of the Year Award at the 2026 Staffordshire Chambers Business Awards, sponsored by Ornua Foods.
In just 13 months at Stoke-on-Trent College, Clare has transformed hundreds of lives across the city. Working with tri-service veterans, adults with learning difficulties, ESOL learners and families in schools, she tailors every session to the individual, reaching people who are often furthest from education and support. Her results speak for themselves: Clare has engaged over 60 veterans and hundreds of families, directly contributing to the college exceeding its community public contract targets and prompting the creation of a new Community Engagement Practitioner post.
She routinely works evenings and weekends, personally funds her own learner prize box, and connects individuals with services well beyond her remit. Executive Director Elliot White puts it simply: “If I had ten Clares, Stoke-on-Trent would be a much better place to live.”
Stuart Elford, Chief Executive of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, said: “Clare Clohesy has achieved in 13 months what many people would be proud of over an entire career. She is reaching the people who need support most, going well beyond her job description to do it, and the impact she is having on veterans, families and learners across this city is extraordinary. We are delighted to recognise her as a finalist and look forward to celebrating with her in July.”
The winners will be revealed at a gala awards ceremony at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Thursday 9 July 2026, followed by The After Party, a late-night celebration for finalists, winners and partners.
