The Chamber has been in existence for over 200 years - the first association was established in 1813 and became incorporated in 1949. It was borne out of a desire from businesses to meet and trade together. For there to be an organisation to represent the interest of commerce and industry and to ensure that there was a voice for business. There has also been a need for an organisation to deliver services to help businesses to start, grow and succeed. Staffordshire Chambers continue to deliver this role. It has also developed a wider role with the recognition of the contribution that the business community makes to economic and social success.
We set ourselves high standards and are proud to have held the ISO 9001 Quality & ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standards since 2013. These standards show the Chambers commitment to delivering quality services to our members and clients, and also our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our activities.
In November 2022, we were proud to achieve the Platinum award for Investors In People, demonstrating that we invest heavily in our staff as our most important asset. We ensure that we communicate, involve and engage with our staff so that there is transparency in all that we do and in return our staff enjoy the work that they do and are committed to the Chamber.
The Chamber has signed the “Charter for Employers Positive about Mental Health” and we are committed to creating a supportive and open culture, to help reduce the stigma and discrimintion at work, where colleagues feel to able to talk about mental health and to support the mental wellbeing of all staff.
In June 2019 we were awarded Gold by Healthworks Stoke-on-Trent in recognition of the importance the Chamber places on improving the health and wellbeing of our employees.
IASME Governance Assessment Including Cyber Essentials & GDPR
We have successfully re-obtained our IASME Governance Assessment including Cyber essentials and GDPR in recognition of the good controls that we have in place to mitigate the risk of internet-based threats, by properly protecting members, customers and Chambers information.
In August 2018, the Chamber became an accredited member of the Living Wage Foundation. The Chamber believes in the importance of everyone earning a decent wage to enable them to have a decent standard of living.
The Chamber believes in fair recruitment. We ensure our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible by communicating and promoting vacancies, offering an interview to disabled people where possible, anticipating and providing reasonable adjustments as required and by supporting any existing employee who acquires a disability or long term health condition, enabling them to stay in work
