Understanding the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism Training

Thu 14th November @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm GMT

The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) came into force in October 2023. It is intended to prevent ‘carbon leakage’ by subjecting the import of certain groups of products to a carbon levy.

EU importers are now obligated to report on the specific embedded emissions of certain products. If the products you export to the EU fall under the scope of CBAM, your customers will be expecting emissions data from you, and compliance will require a comprehensive understanding of emissions produced in your supply chain and your production processes.

The EU CBAM will take effect in 2026, with reporting having begun in 2023. Products covered include Electric Energy Production, Cement, Aluminium, Fertilizers, Iron, Steel and Hydrogen.

The UK CBAM is planned to take effect in 2027 and will include the above products excluding Electric Energy Production but including Ceramics and Glass.

The workshop will cover:

  1. An introduction to carbon; its terminology and market forces.
  2. An overview of the EU’s CBAM regulation; background, scope, terminology and approach.
  3. What this means to UK exporters, and the opportunities presented.
  4. An overview of the proposed UK CBAM and the implication for UK importers.

Chamber Members: £175.00 + VAT
Non-Chamber Members: £205.00 + VAT
