Reporting on sustainability in financial statements – empowering directors to save the world!
Wed 20th March @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm GMT
Many businesses and organisations in Staffordshire are becoming more environmentally sustainable and wish to report on this but have often found that existing sustainability reporting requirements are complex and unclear.
A new legal opinion provides crucial guidance. It states that directors of UK companies must consider whether and how to reflect relevant sustainability issues in their financial statements to provide a true and fair view of their company’s position.
Commissioned by Social Value International, this opinion empowers directors to depart from existing accounting standards and highlights the discretion they have, in law, to include additional information in the financial statements.
Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce Directors have already taken a lead in disclosing climate change impacts in their financial statements by including a note in the audited financial statements for the year ending 31 March 2023.
Join us at this roundtable at which our speakers, including from Social Value International, will explain the implications of the opinion for UK businesses, answer your questions, and provide guidance and suggest resources for company directors, auditors and interested executives to act on developing sustainability reporting in your financial statements.
